Katy Perry, dilahirkan pada 25, Oktober 1984 di Santa Barbara, California. Setelah dibebani tiga tawaran rekod yang hampir musnah, beliau bertekad untuk berkerjasama dengan Capitol pada 2007. Setahun kemudian, beliau tampil berani mencipta hit’s pertamanya , “ Ur So Gay”. Ianya masih di tahap yang kurang memuaskan sehingga beliau mencipta hit’s berikutnya , “ I Kissed a Girl”. Album beliau ‘Teenage Dreams’ telah dikeluarkan pada August 2010. Penyanyi, penulis lirik serta pemuzik ini yang digelar Katy Perry atau nama sebenarnya Katheryn Hudson telah dilahirkan pada 25 Oktober, 1984, di Santa Barbara, California. Beliau dikenali sebagai penghibur yang mempunyai cita rasa fesyen yang tinggi, prop pentas yang menarik dan aneh. Semenjak itu, Katy Perry telah bersinar dengan sensasi muzik pop.

Peminatnya tertarik dengan penyanyi yang menulis tentang penerokaan seksual dalam lagu beliau ‘ I Kissed a Girl’ merupakan salah satu anggota keluarga yang konservatif (yang mementingkan kebersihan; keharmonian). Kedua ibu bapa beliau adalah pastor/kaunselor Negara, dan mereka menolak untuk membiarkan anak perempuannya itu mendengar mana- mana lagu rock mahupun pop. "The only things I was allowed to listen to were the Sister Act 1 and 2 soundtracks," sindir Perry di Entertainment Weekly. Beliau dan dua adik beradiknya juga dilarang sama sekali untuk menonton rancangan kabel seperti MTV dan VH1.

Perry memulakan pengajian nyanyiannya ketika sekitar 9 tahun serta mempunyai bakat bermain gitar ketika berusia 13 tahun. Disekitar umurnya yang meningkat remaja, beliau mula untuk menegakkan kemahuannya serta memberontak terhadap kongkongan ibubapanya terhadap beliau. Beliau kemudiannya bertekad meneruskan kerjayanya dalam bidang nyanyian. Beliau telah melakukan beberapa kunjungan ke Nashville bersama ibunya untuk merakamkan album injilnya ( album Ketuhanan ), Katy Hudson yang dikeluarkan pada 2001. "It reached literally maybe 100 people, and then the label went bankrupt," terang Perry kepada Entertainment Weekly.

Sebagai remaja, Perry telah terdedah dengan pengaruh muzikal yang lain. Seorang rakannya telah memperkenalkan muzik berunsurkan ‘Queen’ kepadanya, yang juga menjadi salah satu kumpulan yang diminati beliau."I'm very inspired by Freddie Mercury and how flamboyant and theatrical he was," ujarnya dalam majalah fesyen WWD. Ketika di sekolah menengah, beliau gemar menjadi dirinya sendiri dan tidak terlalu terhad kepada satu kumpulan sosial di sekolahnya. "I was a hop-around. I hung out with the rockabilly crew, the guys who were trying to be rappers, the funny kids," ujarnya dalam majalah Seventeen.

Berfokus kepada muziknya, Perry telah berjaya mencapai GED lalu berpindah ke Los Angeles untuk berkerjasama dengan produser dan penulis lirik Glen Ballard, iaitu penulis lirik kepada bintang – bintang terkenal seperti Christina Aguilera dan Alanis Morissette. Beliau ketika itu hanya berumur 17 tahun tetapi berjaya membuktikan bakatnya di khayalak "It was five years of living in L.A. with no money, writing bad checks, selling my clothes to make rent, [and] borrowing money," terang beliau dalam majalah Seventeen . Perry juga pernah menghadapi bebanan dan kekecewaan sebelum mencapai impian dan popularitinya. Beliau dan Ballard menghadapi masalah yang besar berikutan tiada syarikat yang rela berkerjasama dengan mereka. Tambahan pula, pada 2004 kolaborasi beliau dengan produser yang kini digelar penghibur iaitu The Matrix hampir dimansuhkan untuk seketika sebelum ia dikeluarkan dan diperkembangkan.

"The only things I was allowed to listen to were the Sister Act 1 and 2 soundtracks," Perry told Entertainment Weekly. She and her two siblings were also not permitted to watch such cable channels as MTV and VH1.

Perry started taking singing lessons around the age of 9 and learned to play guitar when she was 13. Around this time, she began rebelling against her strict upbringing by piercing her own nose. She soon became interested in pursuing a career in music. With her mother, Perry made several trips to Nashville to record a gospel album, Katy Hudson, which was released in 2001. Early Musical Influences

As a teenager, Perry was exposed to other musical influences. One friend introduced her to the music of Queen, which remains one of her favorite groups. In high school, she strove to be her own person, choosing not to limit herself to one social group. "I was a hop-around. I hung out with the rockabilly crew, the guys who were trying to be rappers, the funny kids," she told Seventeen magazine.

Focused on her music, Perry got her GED and moved to Los Angeles to work with producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, who had worked with such artists as Christina Aguilera and Alanis Morissette. She was only 17 years old at time, and being on her own proved tough. "It was five years of living in L.A. with no money, writing bad checks, selling my clothes to make rent, [and] borrowing money," she told Seventeen magazine. Perry also experienced a string of disappointments before getting her big break. She and Ballard were unable to find a record company willing to take them on, and her 2004 collaboration with music producers-turned-performers The Matrix was scrapped shortly before the project was to be released.
